Planned maintenance work by the City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will be performed on Tuesday, 11 March, which will result in a nine-hour water outage.
Residents in affected areas are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure.
NINE-HOUR WATER OUTAGE TO AFFECT PARTS OF CAPE TOWN
The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements will result in water supply disruption in the following areas:
Part of Hout Bay – The municipality said water supply to a section of Valley Road and Bethal Street and its immediate surrounds in Hout Bay will be shut off temporarily from 7:30 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 11 MarchÂto enable the safe connection of the newly-installed water pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure in Valley Road and Bethal Street.
Â
Part of Kommetjie – The water supply to Aloe Road, Lighthouse Road, Nerina Avenue, Clan Monroe Avenue and surrounds in Kommetjie will be shut off temporarily from 8:00 until 17:00, on Tuesday, 11 March.Â
Likewise, this will enable the safe connection of the newly-installed water pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure in Lighthouse Road.
Â
Eerste River – The water supply to the area will be shut off temporarily from 11:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 11 March. This will enable the maintenance team to assess a valve leading off the main water supply to the area.
Unfortunately, the whole of Eerste River will be affected. The impacted area could unfortunately not be reduced due to passing valves in the water supply network. However, water tankers will be made available to provide water for domestic use where required.
Â
Bellville, Parow, Parow West and Plattekloof – The water supply to the Nassau Reservoir and pump station will be shut off temporarily from 8:00 on Saturday, 15 March, until 8:00 on Sunday, 16 March.Â
The City of Cape Town said this will enable the maintenance team to install a new bulk water meter on the 535mm diameter water main to the Nassau Reservoir. The reservoir will be filled in advance.
36-HOUR MAINTENANCE CANCELLED
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has cancelled the 36-hour water shutdown in Goodwood, Parow Valley, Klipkop and Ravensmead.
Initially, it was reported that the water supply to these areas would be shut off temporarily from 8:00 on Saturday, 8 March, until 20:00 on Sunday, 9 March. However, during an assessment, it was determined that Goodwood was not affected and that work to be done would have to be split into two sections to minimise the impact on consumers due to valves not closing fully.
