The Wynberg Regional Court on Friday heard details about the involvement of four suspects in a string of robberies carried out on Valentine’s Day last year.

This coincided with the mysterious disappearance of then 23-year-old German tourist Nick Frischke who vanished while hiking the Hangberg trail in Hout Bay on 14 February 2023.

Ongoing investigation

The court proceedings revealed testimonies from four witnesses, including three police officers and the mother of one of the accused, aimed at supporting the ongoing investigation.

The suspects – Carlo Geunantin (23), Ishaam Fischer (21), Vanroy Petersen (22), and Melvin Geunatin (36) – are all alleged to have played roles in the crimes committed on the same day Frischke disappeared.

According to EWN, the court heard the accused also committed other crimes on the same day including robbing a delivery truck at gunpoint.

The suspects previously admitted to robbing Frischke.

Nick Frischke’s cellphone, a backpack, and a credit card belonging to him were all found in their possession.

The state has made submissions to add murder charges to their rap sheet, but in the absence of evidence, this hasn’t happened.

The trial has been postponed until 16 January 2025.

The four suspects will remain in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
