Kaizer Chiefs want Feisal Salum, as Azam FC responds to transfer news.
Reports have surfaced that Tanzanian international Salum, currently playing for Azam, could be on his way to join Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa. The 27-year-old midfielder, who impressed during the 2023/2024 Tanzanian Premier League season, has reportedly caught the attention of multiple top clubs, including the Glamour Boys and Simba SC.
Salum, who finished as the second top scorer in the Tanzanian Premier League last season, has continued to showcase his talent during the 2024/2025 campaign. His consistent performances have fuelled speculation that the Tanzanian club could be willing to sell him, but recent statements from Azam FC suggest otherwise.
Chiefs and Simba both pursued Salum in Jan
During the mid-season transfer window in January, both Kaizer Chiefs and Simba SC reportedly made attempts to sign Salum. However, the talented midfielder remained with Azam FC, despite interest from these prominent clubs. Azam FC’s management was said to be unwilling to part with one of their star players.
According to Rwandan journalist Eric Ndagijimana, there’s a significant twist in the tale. Azam FC is reportedly open to selling Salum if the right offer comes through. While both Kaizer Chiefs and Azam FC have allegedly opened discussions regarding a potential deal, no official bid has been submitted by Chiefs yet. With Thabo Cele already added to the squad, Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi is looking to further strengthen his midfield, and Salum could be the ideal addition.
The connection between Nabi and Salum could play a major role in the potential transfer. The two previously worked together at Young Africans, and a reunion could be in the cards if Chiefs move forward with their pursuit.
Azam denies selling Salum: Club’s strong statement
Despite the rumors circulating about Salum’s possible exit, Azam FC has quickly denied the reports. In a statement to the media, club media officer Hasheem Ibwe addressed the speculation and firmly denied any plans to sell the midfielder.
“If there is any player we are willing to keep, even with our lives, it is that guy Feisal,” Ibwe declared.
“We have never opened any talks with any club because he is not for sale. Feisal Salum has another 17 months on his contract with Azam. He is not going anywhere as we are making sure that we keep him. We renewed his contract because we need him in the team. He is an important part of the team.”
Salum’s future remains uncertain: Will Chiefs seal the deal?
As the drama unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Kaizer Chiefs can persuade Azam FC to part with their prized asset. While the Tanzanian club is resolute in their stance, the situation could change if the right offer materializes. For now, Feisal Salum’s future remains up in the air, and fans of both Azam FC and Kaizer Chiefs will be watching closely.
