Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party boss Jacob Zuma has ordered his daughter Duduzile to apologise to party secretary Floyd Shivambu after she insulted him on social media.

Zuma’s daughter, an MP, leads a group that wants Shivambu to step down from his job.

On Monday night, Zuma-Sambudla took to X to launch a string of insults at Shivambu.

Her father has now told her to say sorry to Shivambu or risk being kicked out of the party.

Zuma said the attack on Shivambu was “unacceptable, divisive, denigrating, and offensive”.

“These apologies must be made immediately. Following this, an internal disciplinary process will be initiated.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in immediate consequences, including the summary termination of Commander Duduzile Zuma’s membership in Umkhonto weSizwe Party and her recall from all party responsibilities.”

The fight shows the split in the MK party between old and new members. The old guard joined when the party started in December 2023. The new crowd came after the May 2024 elections.

The first group says they spent their own money to campaign for the party. Their work helped MK win 15% of votes across South Africa and 45% in KwaZulu-Natal.

But after the elections, Zuma brought in new faces like Shivambu, the former EFF deputy president, and made them MPs even though they didn’t help during the campaign.

Now Shivambu, who is setting up party structures across the country, is butting heads with longtime MK members.

Zuma-Sambudla hit out at him on social media, calling him useless and “the worst thing that happened to MK”.
