UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader Jacob Zuma has fired his party’s Mpumalanga leader, Mary Phadi.
Phadi is a renowned businesswoman and president of the Truckers Association of South Africa.
MK PARTY FIRES MPUMALANGA LEADER MARY PHADI
In a statement, the party said Phadi was requested to resign voluntarily from the Mpumalanga legislature. However, she did not heed the call, prompting the party leader to decide to revoke her membership with immediate effect. Consequently, her affiliation with the MK Party has also been terminated.
The party said the decision to terminate Phadi’s membership follows thorough deliberations and allegations against her, including misappropriating funds, bringing the organisation into disrepute, and non-compliance with leadership’s request.
“Due to the gravity of the allegations coupled with Phadi’s inadequate responses, the leadership has made an irrevocable final decision to terminate her membership.
“The speaker of the Mpumalanga provincial legislature has been informed, and all letters terminating her membership by the president and national high command have been sent to Mpumalanga provincial legislature,” the party said.
ALLEGED PLOT TO ASSASSINATE POLITICAL RIVAL
In August, Sunday World reported that Phadi allegedly hired hitmen to kill her provincial rival in the organisation, General Tough Mdluli.
Mdluli told the publication that he opened a case against Phadi with the police after he received several death threats and voice recordings where an alleged plot to kill him was discussed.
Further, Mdluli also accused Phadi of tampering with the MK Party provincial list from Mpumalanga and putting herself as number one.
