Umkhonto Wesizwe Party leader Jacob Zuma has announced the new KZN structures, featuring seasoned politicians from the IFP and ANC.

On Friday, Zuma announced the new KZN structures through party secretary Floyd Shivambu, who said the provincial and regional detachments must maximise discipline in the party.

Zuma made it clear that those who have been appointed have serious skills in different aspects of leadership.

Their announcement comes after the 21 January High Command meeting where it was agreed that provinces such as Mpumalanga, KZN and Gauteng need to have proper structures.

In the provincial structure, the former IFP 2011 mayoral candidate for the then Hibiscus Coast Municipality now called Ray Nkonyeni Lynnette Zwane was announced as deputy MKP convener of the KwaZulu-Natal province.

Zwane is a former member of the IFP Women’s Brigade.

Zwane surprised the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in 2011 when she left the IFP to join the ANC.

She has served ever since as a member of the ANC’s KZN legislature until she was deployed to the National Assembly in 2019.

This was after she had threatened to go back to the IFP as she had failed to make it in the KZN legislature ANC list.

In 2024 after again failing to make it in the ANC provincial to national list she quit the ANC and joined the MKP.

She is deputising former KZN premier Willies Mchunu – now the provincial convener of the MKP.

It was noted that the MKP KZN structure has added four women leaders, including the two additional members that were announced by Zuma in uMhlanga on Friday afternoon.

Zuma says the MKP has significantly changed the political landscape of the country.

“We now have our provincial and regional detachments. This means we are serious.  Umkhonto Wesizwe is here to stay. People have said many things about us but look where we are now. We are one year and one month old,” said Zuma.
