‘Zero-tariff for Europe’ – Elon Musk’s advise to Trump

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has advised US President Donald Trump to consider implementing a “zero-tariff situation” between Europe and the United States.

This recommendation comes after Trump announced a 20% tariff on goods from the European Union last week. Musk, who serves as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, emphasized the importance of North America and Europe forming a strong working relationship.

“I hope that the United States and Europe can establish a close partnership. There is an alliance already but I’m hopeful that they can be very close relationship with America and Europe,” Musk said in a video-link interviewwith Matteo Salvini.

Elon Musk pushing for zero-tariff in Europe?

“At the end of the day, I hope it’s agreed that both Europe and the United States should move ideally, in my view, to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free-trade zone between Europe and North America,” he said.

“There should be more freedom of people to move between Europe and North America if they wish to work in Europe or America, they should be allowed to do so, so that has been my advice to the president.”

Musk believes the zero-tariff situation would make it easier for Americans and Europeans to trade. With the world’s richest man likely to leave DOGE soon, it remains to be seen whether his relationship with Trump would be close.

In recent months, Tesla, the automotive company founded by Elon Musk, has experienced a significant drop in sales, particularly due to his controversial cost-cutting measures involving Dogecoin (DOGE). According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, sales in Europe fell by 49% in the first two months of the quarter.

Many believe that Musk’s proposal for a zero-tariff policy is an attempt to revive Tesla’s sales in Europe.
