Afro-soul singer Zamajobe is set to return to the music scene with her upcoming album, Umi, and she is excited to unveil a fresh and diverse offering that reflects her growth as a musician and individual.
Zamajobe recently announced exciting updates on her Instagram, revealing that her first single, Akusemnandi, is already out. She shared that her upcoming album, Umi, is in the works, with the second single, Siyajabula, already released.
Additionally, fans can mark their calendars for the album launch, scheduled for November 30th at the Lyric Theater in Gold Reef.
In an interview with TRUELOVE, Zamajobe expressed her enthusiasm for the album, explaining that she couldn’t afford to wait for the “right time” to re-enter the music industry.
“To be honest, I really hope that they would appreciate the difference in what I’m offering as opposed to what’s currently out there. I’m pretty certain that people that sort of have been listening to me for a while now will probably do that. And the challenge now is like a new demographic who have a certain sound that’s instilled in them coming on board,” she said.
The Sowetan Live publication stated that Zamajobe has spent much of the past decade out of the public eye due to a toxic relationship.
Reflecting on her 10-year hiatus, Zamajobe admitted to TRUELOVE that she was waiting for the perfect moment to return but realised that such a moment might never come. Instead of continuing to wait, she decided it was time to create her new album and re-enter the music scene.
“With my hiatus, the reason why it took so long is because I kept waiting for that moment where I was like okay, now I feel excited, now I feel like I want to go back in the game now, I want to take it on and[..] if I want to do an album now and I want to come back, I must just do an album.”
