You’ll pay less at the pumps from TODAY fuel petrol

The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources had some good news for South Africa’s motorists on Tuesday.

Petrol and diesel both decreased in price – inland and at the coast – effective at midnight on Tuesday, 4 March.

February saw both the global price of petrol decrease and the rand come in stronger relative to January 2025, leading to a marginal over-recovery in prices.

This has translated into a price decrease at the pumps for both petrol and diesel, marking the first drop in the last five months.

FUEL PRICE CHANGE
Petrol 93 decrease of 7 cents
Petrol 95 decrease of 7 cents
Diesel 0.05% decrease of 17.5 cents
Diesel 0.005% decrease of 23.5 cents
Illuminating Paraffin decrease of 6 cents

FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:

1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products


Oil price

At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $70.80 a barrel.

Exchange rate

At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R18.48/$.


South Africa’s motorists are urged to hold off on filling up until the price decreases take effect.

The next fuel price adjustment will take effect from Tuesday, 1 April.

Remember, while the petrol price is regulated and should* be the same at every petrol station inland or at the coast, the cost of diesel will differ depending where you fill up.
