CAPE COBRA FOUND IN BED!
In a video shared on Facebook account Stellenbosch Snake Removals, a snake handler, Emile Rossouw was seen removing a large Cape Cobra from a home in the area.
The snake had snuggled under a pillow and was discovered while the young boy was lying down.
According to Emile, the boy – who heard a “hissing sound – was lucky to be alive.
According to the snake removal company, Cape Cobras are often mistaken with the Mole Snake and the Black Spitting Cobra.
However, it is as venomous as the Black Mamba and “accounts for the majority of fatal snake bites in South Africa”.
It added: “The Cape Cobra may stand its ground if threatened and is quick to form a hood and bite.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE BITTEN BY A SNAKE?
According to the African Snakebite Institute, here is a list of do’s and don’t if a snake bites you
- DON’T apply ice or boiling water, lotion, or potions. Don’t attempt to cut or suck out the venom
- DO seek medical care as soon as possible
- DO apply a pressure bandage. In the case of a Cape Cobra or Black Mamba bite, this could put pressure on the lymphatic system and reduce the rate at which venom is absorbed.
- DO flush out the venom of a spitting snake by running your head under a slow-running tap.
