The world’s tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, and the shortest woman, Jyoti Amge, met in London recently to celebrate this year’s Guinness World Records Day.
The world’s tallest woman
Rumeysa Gelgi is the tallest living woman worldwide, standing at 215,16 cm. She is originally from Türkiye and is 27 years old.
Gelgi’s height is due to a condition called Weaver syndrome. It is an extremely rare genetic condition that causes bone overgrowth following a mutation of the EZH2 gene.
She works as a web developer and is also an ambassador for diversity and positivity, actively raising awareness about her condition. Her hobbies include exploring new places, shopping, swimming, and reading books, especially detective and crime novels.
The tallest man in the world
Surprisingly, the world’s tallest living man, Sultan Kösen, is also from Türkiye. Sultan’s unique height was caused by a condition known as pituitary gigantism, which is the result of an over-production of growth hormone. The effects of over-production include large hands, a thickening of the bones and painful joints.
The world’s shortest woman
Jyoti Amge, 30, an actress from India, holds the record for the shortest living woman (mobile). She has proudly held this title for over a decade. Her height is 62,8 cm.
Amge’s height is caused by achondroplasia – a bone growth disorder that affects the arms and legs. This genetic disorder occurs in the early stages of foetal development and causes short stature, impacting the cartilage tissue that should later form the bones of the child’s arms and legs.
Amge starred in the fourth season (Freak Show) of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Storyin the role of Ma Petite. Murphy is an American television writer and director. Talking about her experience on the set of this series, Amge said that although she experienced many difficulties, it was the biggest achievement in her life. ‘I am overjoyed to have worked with them,’ she said.
The actress has also been a guest on several editions of the Italian prime-time TV show Lo Show Dei Record.
Historic meeting
The two women spent time at The Savoy Hotel in London, where they enjoyed some tea and exchanged presents from their homelands.
The two record-holders got along very well and bonded over life experiences and also a shared love for fashion and self-care, reported Guinness World Records.
“We do have things in common! We both love make-up, self-care, jewellery and doing our nails.”
Rumeysa Gelgi“I’m delighted that I’ve met Rumeysa. She is so good-natured, and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”Jyoti Amge
