Fan-favourite retailer Woolworths trended on social media this past week when shoppers found empty shelves in stores.
WOOLWORTHS TO STOCK SHELVES
Woolworths expects to have fully stocked shelves soon after supply issues and disruptions left some stores short of fresh produce and meat, according to Business Live.
The retailer reveals that their red meat shortage was mainly due to a supplier-related issue.
“We’re aware of a supplier issue affecting our stock and are working to resolve it. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” said Woolworths.
IOLconfirms that Woolworths shelves are expected to be full by the end of the week at the latest.
“Our supplier has resolved their internal challenges; production started on Friday and has been fully restored,” adds the retailer.
Woolies‘ supply chain was affected by supplier-related problems and heavy rains in key agricultural regions such as Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
The retailer had a shortage of fresh produce such as lettuce, spinach and cauliflower and also had a temporary shortage of avocados in January this year.
The company reveals that it now sourcing from other suppliers and expects coming harvests from Mozambique and Limpopo to improve availability of its fresh produce.
The retailer trended on X this past week when social media user @RoryPetzer shared pictures of empty shelves at Woolworths.
