Futurologist Dr. Ian Pearson has made headlines with his bold prediction that women may choose robots over men to fulfil their sexual needs within the next ten years. According to a report by the British daily The Sun, Dr. Pearson foresees a rise in robotic sexual partners, particularly in affluent households, as early as 2025.

Dr. Pearson suggests that women could develop emotional attachments to these robots, indicating a significant shift in relationship dynamics. While some may dismiss his ideas, he points to the increasing acceptance and usage of sex toys, sex dolls, and the expanding sexual wellness industry, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, as evidence that his forecasts may become reality.

“We are not that far away from this vision at the moment,” he stated, referencing how discussions around sex toys and vibrators have become mainstream. He believes it won’t be long before robot sex becomes more appealing to women than traditional pornography.

Looking further ahead, Dr. Pearson predicts that by 2050, robot sex could surpass human intimacy in popularity. “A lot of people will still have reservations about sex with robots at first, but gradually, as they get used to them, and as AI and mechanical behaviour improve, that squeamishness will gradually evaporate,” he wrote in a report commissioned by Bondara, an online sex shop.

Titled The Rise of the Robosexuals, the report suggests that virtual reality sex will become commonplace by 2030, with sex toys integrated into these experiences by 2035. “(Sex robots will) make the emotional barriers even lower, take away remaining guilt, improve mental health, and people will get even more from their lives,” Dr. Pearson noted, as quoted by the Daily Dot.

Despite these predictions, he emphasises that traditional relationships will still hold significant value, arguing that robot sex should not be perceived as a threat but rather as an enhancement to human sexuality. As society continues to evolve, the implications of these developments could reshape the future of intimate relationships.
