Woman arrested after fatal stabbing over wine dispute

Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman from Phuthaditjhaba for allegedly stabbing a 22-year-old woman to death following an argument over spilled wine.

Alleged Dispute Turns Deadly

According to South African Police Services, the incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, 01 May 2025.

Officers arrived at the scene around 07:30 and found the victim lying in the street with a stab wound to the chest.

Police investigations suggest the altercation began at approximately 04:30, when the suspect confronted the victim in the street and accused her of spilling wine on her.

The suspect then allegedly left the area, returned with a sharp object, and stabbed the victim. Authorities declared her dead at the scene.

The police arrested the suspect shortly after the incident and recovered the knife used in the attack, placing it into evidence.

Victim’s Identity Withheld

Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased until they formally notify her family and officially identify her body.

Court Appearance Scheduled

The suspect will appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 02 May 2025, to face a charge of murder.
