Good news! The ICC have issued an arrest warrant for mass-murdering Zionist war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu – and his former defence minister, Yoav Gallant.
Bad news! It won’t matter – if precedence is anything to go by.
Wow, what a week! First we hear rumours of Joe Biden’s prospect impeachment, and now Bedlam Bibi is facing arrest for war crimes. Looks like Christmas came early this year. Too bad the second gift is bound to be an empty box.
THE A-CARD DOESN’T PLAY THAT WAY, TODAY, BIBI
Of course, as soon as the ICC arrest warrant was issued, Bibi’s reflexive, go-to response was the exact same thing he does anytime Israel is criticised in any way whatsoever; he reaches into his back pocket, for that trusty, tried and tested, battered, dog-eared A-card…and bitch-slaps you with it.
To give you an idea what people think lately about that overused card, last week somebody on FB responded to this article with the comment: “’Antisemitic’ must now be the most used word in the world!” Thank you, Linda. You made my case.
In a recent interview, reacting to Bibi’s “antisemite” accusations, renowned economist Prof. Jeffrey Sachs said (paraphrasing); Given what the world has seen of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Netanyahu’s tired and predictable accusations of antisemitism “won’t play” this time around with the international community.
ALL OF THEM, ZIONISTS
As I said in a previous article, Bibi has big buddies in highfalutin places – like almost all of Donald Trump’s pro-Zionist cabinet. Or, as military analyst, Scott Ritter recently said, “They’re ALL Zionists.”Which means the ICC have more chance of finding Bigfoot, Yeti and Jimmy Hoffa – on the same day – than they have of arresting Bibi, let alone prosecuting him successfully, after Trump is inaugurated.
How Trump responds to the ICC warrant remains to be seen, but the Biden administration has “fundamentally rejected” it, slamming the move as ‘outrageous, unlawful and dangerous’.
(Duh! No surprises there.) Just more evidence of that bipartisan illusion; “two cheeks” on the same tuchus.
AMERICA’S BIPOLAR BEHAVIOUR REGARDING THE ICC
If you think that America, particularly the Trump administration is going to comply with or even acknowledge the ICC’s warrant, think again. In September 2018, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, President Trump criticized the Court comparing it to the United Nations Human Rights Council. He said; “The United States will provide no support in recognition to the International Criminal Court. As far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy, and no authority.” Trump also sanctioned the ICC in March that year, and withdrew the US from the UNHRC in June.
The US seems to have a schizoid, hypocritical, double-standard towards the ICC. When the court goes after America’s enemies, like Putin, America is fully onboard and endorses the warrant. However, when they go after America’s friends or allies, or America itself, the US rejects the warrant with contempt and even goes so far as to threaten the ICC.
Like in 2018, when prolific warmonger and “idiot whacko-nut-job” (Trump’s words, not mine – and Musk’s), John Bolton threatened ICC judges and prosecutors with sanctions and arrest for DARING to accuse the USA of war crimes in Afghanistan. (I guess the ICC, due to a clerical error, forgot to include US war crimes in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Ukraine and most of South America.)
Or again, in March 2019, when that OTHER big warmonger (and would-be Assange assassin), then Secretary of State, the “lying, cheating, stealing” (his words, not mine) Mike Pompeo announced that the US was imposing visa bans on ICC staff. The ICC didn’tback down, so in June 2020, Trump authorized further sanctions on the court’s officials. Human Rights Watch responded to the sanctions by pointing out; “Trump’s attack on the ICC betrays his contempt for global rule of law.”
THE RULES (FOR THEE, BUT NOT FOR ME) BASED ORDER
In May 2024, after ICC chief prosecutor, Karim Khan announced he was seeking arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials and Hamas leaders, Biden and US lawmakers threatened the ICC with the ‘The Hague Invasion Act‘. The law allows the US to use “all means necessary and appropriate” to free US military and allies, including Israel, from the court.
Does any of this sound like respect for Democracy, Human Rights or International Rule of Law to you? Nah, sounds like just more of that new, Western, faux-democratic, “Rules-based order” scam, which basically translates into rules for thee (the commoner), but not for me (the elite).
SA ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY, HUMANITY AND RULE OF LAW
Of the 124 countriessigned to the Rome Statute, those that pledged they would uphold the warrant include Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Canada, The Netherlands…and South Africa.
Speaking of, it’s not just the ICC that should be commended for having the guts to go after Netanyahu…it’s also us. Lest we forget, when most of the world was cowering and quivering before mighty Israel (and big brother, US/NATO), it was our little ol’ S’Africa that had the balls and integrity to stand up – like David to Israel’s Goliath – and drag Bedlam Bibi and his cabal of war criminals (in absentia) to the ICJ, and hold them to account for their unhinged, genocidal frenzy in Gaza.
You have to admit, it was a profoundly courageous move by the SA Govt…that had most of the caring world lauding us. Like the release of Mandela, winning the RWC in ’95, or being awarded the Oscar for Tsotsi, that’s got to be one of our top shining moments since the birth of our nation. A move that all Saffers – including peace-loving (Christian) Zionists – should be super proud of.
Because history is going to smile on us kindly for that one. Guaranteed.
What say you, SA? Will Trump put America (and Rule of Law first), and comply with the ICC warrant, or bail out his buddy, Bibi?
