Will coffee prices keep climbing in 2025?

South African coffee lovers may need to brace for more price hikes as global trends push costs higher.

Stats SA’s latest data shows that overall inflation held steady at 3.2% in February, but coffee prices soared, leading the beverages category with a 19% increase.

As reported by Business Tech, economist Frank Blackmore of KPMG South Africa attributes the spike to rising global coffee costs.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports that world coffee prices hit a multi-year high in 2024, up 38.8% from the previous year. Extreme weather in key producing regions has driven Arabica prices 58% higher and Robusta up by 70%.

With no signs of relief, caffeine lovers may have to swallow even steeper costs in the months ahead.

In light of this, The South African website compared coffee prices across 10of South Africa’s most popular coffee chains.

The comparison highlights just how much consumers are paying for their caffeine fix.
