Notorious celebrity blogger Musa Khawula is finally facing the long arm of the law after years of making defaming statements about high-profile South Africans. He’s also having his day in court – literally – over murder and attempted murder charges against him.
The brazen and unapologetic YouTuber abandoned his bail bid in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court as he smiled, waved, and blew kisses to the media.
But what exactly do we know about the man who dubs himself as the “Pope of Pop Culture”?
MUSA KHAWULA TO STAY BEHIND BARS
On Wednesday, 29 January, Musa Khawula’s legal representatives abandoned his bail bid in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
This, on charges of crimen injuria, contempt of court, and contravening the Cybercrimes Act.
The charges stem from his failure to remove defamatory X posts last year about former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green and her businessman husband, Ze Nxumalo. In his tweets, Musa alleged that Ze had been cheating on his pregnant wife.
Meanwhile, Musa is also facing a separate charge of attempted murder relating to a 2021 incident when he was accused of knocking over a man and driving off. According to Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, Musa will be charged with attempted murder, reckless driving, and failing to render assistance or report the accident”.
On top of that, Musa will also finally be investigated for the alleged murder of Wandile Khambule. According to the deceased’s girlfriend, Musa stabbed the man to death after he allegedly rejected his romantic advances. However, Musa has refuted the claims, stating that he had acted in self-defence.
