Kaizer Chiefs won’t be in action this coming weekend but their next Betway Premiership action is a blockbuster meeting with Sundowns.
Kaizer Chiefs visit Sundowns next
Chiefs must wait until Saturday 01 March when they meet champions Mamelodi Sundowns away from home. It’s the ultimate test in this division and Amakhosi don’t come into the match in great form.
Injury and suspension update
Five players are currently on the treatment table which you can see listed below. They must also battle the Brazilians without former Sundowns star Gaston Sirino, who’s suspended after a dismissal against SuperSport United. Chiefs lost 4-1 at Gavin Hunt’s Matsatsantsa side last time out.
- Sibongiseni Mthethwa

Sundowns vs Chiefs H2H isn’t good news for Amakhosi fans
You have to go back to April 2021 for Chiefs’ last win over the South African champions in any competition. Ironically, Uruguayan Gaston Sirino was a goal-scorer for Downs on that afternoon. 33-year-old Sirino scooped 11 trophies with Sundowns in his years at the club but he’s suspended for this clash after his red card against SuperSport.
According to SoccerLaduma, Kaizer Chiefs want to bring former player Lungelo Bhengu back to the club. The 24-year-old defender came through the ranks at Naturena but was deemed not good enough and released in 2019 to Maritzburg. Bhengu, a right-back, is seen as an upgrade on current options Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons. His arrival would also allow the club to shift Njabulo Blom back into his preferred central midfield role.

Downs are unbeaten in each of the last NINE H2Hs across all competitions.
