Kaizer Chiefs racked up another defeat to continue their underwhelming season. What’s next for Amakhosi?
Chiefs face Stellenbosch next
Kaizer Chiefs produced another underwhelming display and result last time out, losing 1-0 away to Cape Town City. Their next test is against an impressive Stellenbosch side at their temporary home, the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Next five fixtures for Kaizer Chiefs
Soweto Derby H2H
Pirates have held the upper hand in recent meetings between these great Soweto rivals. The Buccaneers have won the last three meetings across all competitions, including each of the last two in the league. That stopped a curious and somewhat surprising run of five consecutive wins for Chiefs in Soweto Derby league clashes with the Sea Robbers.
Defensive issues remain
Much is said about Amakhosi’s inability to finish off the chances they create and that fuels rumours of various strikers seemingly on the brink of joining the club. It’s true, their attack is dismally underperforming. They only scored 25 goals in the entire 2023-2024 campaign. So far this term, there’s been a slight uptick with 14 goals from the opening 11 outings. The biggest issue, however, lies at the back. Chiefs have kept only ONE clean sheet this season in the Betway Premiership.Chiefs remain in the hunt for a striker but they’ve got to tidy things up at the back first.
Amakhosi interested in Luke Le Roux
Former SuperSport United and Stellenbosch midfield schemer Luke Le Roux is reportedly a target for Kaizer Chiefs. The 26-year-old Bafana man plies his trade for Swedish outfit Värnamo.
“Even if we say they have the money to bring him back home like they did in the past with players like Bernard Parker, Tshepo Masilela or even Keagan Dolly, it will all depend on the player himself whether he wants to come back home or not,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.
“It will be interesting to see what happens with him in January and Chiefs are crossing their fingers to at least sign a player that both management and the technical team agree upon.”
