The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced planned water supply disruptions across various parts of the city this week due to scheduled maintenance work on its water supply infrastructure.

The maintenance work includes pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements.

Affected AREAS AND Dates

Hout Bay

  • Date: Tuesday, 11 March
  • Time: 7:30 to 17:00
  • Details: Water supply will be temporarily shut off in a section of Valley Road and Bethal Street, including the immediate surrounds, to safely connect newly installed water pipelines to the existing infrastructure.

Kommetjie

  • Date: Tuesday, 11 March
  • Time: 8:00 to 17:00
  • Details: Aloe Road, Lighthouse Road, Nerina Avenue, Clan Monroe Avenue, and surrounding areas will experience a temporary water supply shutdown for the safe connection of new pipelines.

Eerste River

  • Date: Tuesday, 11 March
  • Time: 11:00 to 17:00
  • Details: The entire Eerste River area will be affected as the maintenance team assesses a valve leading off the main water supply. Water tankers will be available to provide water for domestic use if needed.

Bellville, Parow, Parow West, and Plattekloof

  • Date: Saturday, 15 March to Sunday, 16 March
  • Time: 8:00 (Saturday) to 8:00 (Sunday)
  • Details: Water supply to the Nassau Reservoir and pump station will be shut off to install a new bulk water meter on the 535mm diameter water main. The reservoir will be filled in advance.

    Bulk Zone Water Meter Assessments

The City will also conduct water meter assessments, which require temporarily shutting off the water supply through large-diameter zone meters and redirecting flow through bypasses. While no major disruptions are expected, some areas may experience temporary water pressure fluctuations.

    Wednesday, 12 March:

    • Steenberg (bounded by Main Road (M4), Military Road, Kayser River, and Lakeside Wetlands)
    • Murdock Valley – Simon’s Town
    • Kirstenhof

    Thursday, 13 March:

    • Vrygrond
    • Ocean View
    • Lavender Hill

    Important Information for Residents

    • The City has planned this work carefully to minimise disruption, but unexpected complications may cause extended water supply interruptions.
    • The City designates all maintenance sites as construction zones and restricts public access
    • Restoring the water supply may initially make the water appear discoloured or milky due to trapped air in the pipes — letting the water stand should clear it.

How to prepare for water disruptions?

    Residents are encouraged to:

    • Close taps to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is restored.
    • Store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers for use during the disruption period.
