Orlando Pirates were humiliated by arch rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Buccaneers went down 4-1 against the Brazilians, a result which could have major implications on their league title hopes.

Sundowns were far superior on the day however one contributing factor to the result was the substandard Loftus Versfeld pitch.

Orlando Pirates coach opens up on Loftus pitch

“Whatever I say about the pitch, it’s going to be the headlines on social media, and I don’t want to give you that chance to try to show you that I am justifying what happened on the field. It was the same field for Sundowns,” Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro said as quoted by FARPost.

“It’s a pity that this game must be played in this field because it’s not helping anybody. It’s not helping the game, the football, or the risk of injuries.

“Every single action there is a high risk of injuries for both teams. Not for a second you must take this comment like we lost this game because of the field. Not even close. But it’s true that the game was played in very difficult conditions for Sundowns and Orlando Pirates as well.”

In other news, Orlando Pirates FC have a plethora of talent in attack however that comes with it’s own headaches.

Playing time for some of their stars is becoming a major challenge.

And now, another player looks set to follow suit however, his desire to move abroad makes things all the more complicated.

Kimvuidi however is refusing to be loaned out to another local team, and instead wants to move abroad!

“A change of environment is what he needs even if it means going out on loan. But from what I understand, he would like to consider one of the options abroad rather than joining a PSL club on loan although that’s unlikely to happen now in January,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.
