English singer Liam Payne passed away on Wednesday 16 October in Argentina at the age of 31.
RIP LIAM PAYNE
Former member of boyband One Direction, Liam Payne has passed away after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina according to police there, as reported by CNN. The singer was only 31 years old at the time.
The publication reports that Payne’s death occurred Wednesday at a hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood.
Payne was seen in Argentina attending his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on 2 October in videos on social media. He had been staying in Argentina for over two weeks, spending time with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
The singer was best known for being a member of One Direction, which included Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Horan. The band was first formed in 2010 after each member appeared on the UK version of reality competition show The X Factor.
THE 911 CALL
According to E! News, the emergency medical service organisation stated that police had received a report that afternoon about the same hotel in the Palermo neighborhood.
Police were “directed to the hotel by a 911 call reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” according to El Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME).
Authorities did not confirm if drugs or alcohol were actually involved.
Payne was previously opened up about his struggle with drugs and alcohol. He spent 100 days in rehab and in July 2023 he revealed that he was six months sober.
“I just needed to take a little bit of time out for myself actually. Because I kind of became somebody who I didn’t really recognize anymore,” he shared at the time.
