Real Housewives star Christall Kay has responded to speculation that she was a “side chick” to the late billionaire businessman Douw Steyn. The insurance tycoon and property-estate developerwas married to wife Carolyn at the time of his death.

On Tuesday, 4 February, Douw Steyn died at the age of 72 years old. According to reports, this followed a long illness.
Tributes from far and wide flooded into one of South Africa’s most successful businessmen. One of them was from veteran Real Housewivesstar Christall Kay, who claimed that she once dated. She even alleged that Douw proposed to her at a surprise engagement party at the Saxon Hotel in Sandhurst.
The reality TV star posted, “We did life together for a while, both the triumphs and tragedies…You will always be a true inspiration and hold a special place in my heart!”
Following the public backlash, Christall attempted to set the record straight about her relationship with Douw Steyn.
Denying she was a “side chick,” Christall told a follower: “He was my love too. I never got to say goodbye.
“BTW [by the way], his whole family and his wife all knew we were engaged at the time, but I stepped away to make my own life, but I will always hold him dear.”
TIMELINE OF RELATIONSHIPS
Before Christall Kay was in the picture, Douw Steyn met his now-wife Carolyn in the late 90s. In 2003, the couple wed at the Saxon Hotel. However, they divorced just six months later. Carolyn later claimed that she ended up in “psychiatric care” over the marriage split.
Douw began dating Donne Botha in 2005 and got engaged that same year, claims TimesLive. The couple hosted a “wedding ceremony” in 2007 in London in the presence of friends and family and even exchanged rings. The couple parted ways in 2009 on fraught terms.
However, the Durban High Court later dismissed Donne’s claim to half of his state on the basis that they were not legally married. Donne later also accused Douw Steyn of physically assaulting her during their relationship.
After his relationship with Donne Botha ended, he reportedly began dating Christall Kay. The Real Housewives star claimed that the businessman helped her with her music career, and they even enjoyed a trip to the US together.
Christall adds that Douw’s former wife, Carolyn, was “aware” of their relationship.
In 2013, Carolyn confirmed that she had remarried Douw. She shared their “love story” in an Instagram post: “I always tell Douw that he has become the man of my dreams—kind, generous, loving, complimentary.
“Not a day goes by now that he does not tell me how much he loves me, how proud he is of me, and how grateful he is to have me as his wife. And each and every day with this giant of a man, I count as a gift.”
