Tineke Younger’s macaroni and cheese recipe is taking the internet by storm, with her TikTok video reaching viral status. What is the fuss about? A whole kilogram of cheese is used in the dish – yummy or a health risk? You decide.
What are the ingredients?
Here are the ingredients you will need if you have the stomach to try it.
- 1 kg of cheeseÂ
You can use a combination of different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, and cheddar. - 500 g macaroni pastaÂ
- 3 tablespoons of butterÂ
- 1 ½ teaspoons of paprikaÂ
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powderÂ
- 1 teaspoon of saltÂ
- ½ teaspoon of ground pepperÂ
- 3 tablespoons of flourÂ
- 1 can of evaporated milkÂ
- 500 ml creamÂ
- 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard (optional)
What are the instructions?
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
2. Boil the pasta.Â
3. Prepare the seasoning mix – paprika, garlic, salt, and pepper.
4. Grate the cheese.Â
A tip from Tineke is not to use pre-grated cheese, even though it is more convenient, because it may interfere with the smoothness of the cheese sauce.
5. Make the sauce.
In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in half of your seasoning mix. Then, add the flour and whisk it in until there are no lumps. Next, slowly pour in the evaporated milk and add the cream, while continuing to whisk.
Slowly add half of your grated cheese to the sauce, one handful at a time. Make sure it’s fully melted before adding more.
6. Drain all the water from the cooked pasta and fold it into the sauce. Ensure that all the macaroni is coated with the cheese sauce.
7. Grease a baking dish and add half of the cheesy pasta mixture. Top it with half of the remaining cheese. Repeat the process until you have used all your ingredients. Then, put it in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
