The US Embassy has warned South Africans about submitting fraudulent documents in their application for a visa. This comes amid US President Donald Trump’s Executive Order to Afrikaners to apply for refugee status over allegations of South Africa’s “racial discrimination” and “white genocide.”

US EMBASSY WARNS APPLICANTS ABOUT LYING, COMMITTING FRAUD

In a social media post, the US Embassy warned visa applicants about lying in their travel documents.

It read: “Submitting fraudulent documents in support of a U.S. visa application is a serious violation that can result in visa ineligibility.

The US Department of State maintains stringent screening and security measures to protect the integrity of the US visa system and ensure national security.”

The US Embassy added that intentionally lying in documents could result in a permanent travel ban to the country.

REFUGEE STATUS FOR AFRIKANERS

According to the South African Chamber of Commerce in the USA (SACCUSA), close to 70 000 Afrikaners have expressed interest in seeking refugee status under US President Donald Trump’s administration.

The voluntary business organisation – which represents entrepreneurs, professionals, and academics living in the US – handed over the information to the US Embassy in Pretoria.

SACCUSA President Neil Diamond told Newzroom Afrika that most of the inquiries were from Afrikaners between the ages of 25 and 45, with an average of two to three dependents.

“Many of them cited concerns over land reform and their perceived treatment in the country,” he said.

Despite the tense relations between South Africa and the US, fuelled by President Trump and other public figures and organisations, SACCUSA insisted that it did not encourage anyone to leave SA or discourage anyone from leaving.

He added: “We are not pushing any particular agenda.”

According to the US Embassy, the refugee status application will be determined on eligibility by the US Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, and implementing partners who will “promote and prioritise humanitarian relief to white South Africans.”

Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Embassy and monitor their social media channels for updates.
