Not for the first time, the US Embassy is cautioning South Africans that submitting false documents via their visa application could result in a lengthy travel ban. The friendly warning comes amid US President Donald Trump’s Executive Ordergranting white South Africans refugee status.
US EMBASSY WARNS SOUTH AFRICANS
In a social media post this week, the US Embassy warned South African visa applicants: “If you submit fake documents, you are committing fraud and risking your future. We stay one step ahead of document vendors, and we adapt to emerging threats”.
It added: “Protect your future travel opportunities – tell the truth and do not provide fake documents.”
Last month, the US Embassy issued a similar post, in which they emphasised that they utilised “stringent screening and security measures to protect the integrity of the US visa system and ensure national security.”
The US Embassy added that intentionally lying in documents could result in a permanent travel ban to the country.
Under the post, South Africans were amused at the “warning,” given US President Donald Trump’s refugee status offer to the Afrikaner community.
@BiancavanWyk16:“This is the second time that the US Embassy has issued a warning against fake documents. Who of you are being naughty?”
@Majocci: “But, fake documents are appropriate from fake genocide, so what is the problem?
@kgana_mats:“They should be direct and call out Amerikaners.”
@BlessingSbzwane:“Some are starting with fraud even before getting to America, the great land”
‘NO SUCH THING AS HONEST MISTAKE’
Earlier this month, the US Embassy also warned South Africans about not overstaying their visa.
It posted: “Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake’ – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly.”
