US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has revealed why the country has chosen to give “preference” to Afrikaner “refugees, who are being granted asylum in America. This comes after President Donald Trump halted the resettlement programme to other countries around the world.

US SECRETARY OF STATE REVEALS WHY COUNTRY CHOSE AFRIKANER ‘REFUGEES’

Appearing before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, 20 May, US Secretary of State Marco Rubiowas grilled over the “preferential treatment” shown to 49 Afrikaner “refugees”.

When US Senator Tim Kaine asked if Afrikaners were the “most persecuted people in the world”, Rubio responded: “The people that came thought they were persecuted and they passed every checkmark that was required.”

Kaine continued to press if Afrikaners were “more persecuted than  Uyghurs or Rohingyas [ethnic minorities from China and Pakistan, respectively]” or “those from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, or Afghanistan”.

“Why prioritise Afrikaner farmers?” the Senator asked.

An agitated Rubio responded: “It’s a small subset, it’s a new issue, and the President identified it as an issue.”

“Their farms are being burned down and they are being killed”.

Defending why Afrikaners were being singled out, he continued: “The United States has a right to pick and choose who they allow in.

“We are going to prioritse people that come into our country on the basis of what is in the interests of this country”.

Rubio was also grilled on whether the US established a programme to assist “second-class citizens in Apartheid”.

He responded: “No, because I was probably in eighth or ninth grade.”

Kaine went on to claim that Afrikaners were given an “easy pass in the refugee programmes”.

Rubio clapped back: “Our immigration policy is based on the national interests of the United States. If there’s a subset of people that are easier to vet who, we have a better understanding of who they are. They’re going to receive preference.”

WHAT ABOUT OTHER ‘RACIAL MINORITIES?

While President Trump, as well as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have continued to refer to Afrikaners as “persecuted” people, the refugee resettlement programme is not exclusive to them, or white South Africans, for that matter.

According to the US Embassy’s latest directive, refugee status is open to all “racial minorities in South Africa”.

In SA, “racial minorities” can be classified as races other than black people, who make up the majority population.

These groups are identified as Coloured, indian, and mixed-race people.
