Update given on Kaizer Chiefs R3m signing from Orlando Pirates!

Kaizer Chiefs made seven signings at the start of this season, this in hope of improving the team’s fortunes.

Not all of those signings have had a successful time as of yet at Chiefs, with work still needed to be done.

But while Fiacre Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Inacio Miguel, Bradley Cross, Njabulo Blom, and Gaston Sirino have played, Bongani Sam hasn’t. Sam was loaned out by arch rivals Orlando Pirates to another Soweto giant in Moroka Swallows last season. In his first spell at the club, he famously scored against Chiefs in a 2-1 victory. His second spell lasted just six months after being released in January last year. Strangely, he didn’t return to the Buccaneers at that time. Perhaps still recognising the ability, Amakhosi took a chance on his situation tempting their rivals.

Sam joined Chiefs from Pirates

This publication has it on good authority that Chiefs parted ways with R3 million in order to sign Sam. Upon arriving at the club, he immediately suffered a long-term injury. Bradley Cross was then signed and assumed the position. That injury ruled him out of the first part of the season. Now that he has recovered, he has not had a look in. This despite Cross also being out with a long-term injury.

Sam has only played in two friendly matches for Chiefs the Cufa Cup and the Premiers Cup in his hometown Gqeberha. The update on him after that was he was working on his match fitness. It has been at least two months since that now and he is yet to get onto a Betway Premiership match day squad. Nabi has preferred centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe at left-back with Happy Mashiane in reserve. This publication was also reliably in formed that Nabi was not impressed by club management signing the player.

That begged the question, does Sam still have a future under Nabi at Chiefs. According to Soccer-Laduma, he does!

Still has a future at the club

“For now it’s just a matter of time before (Bongani Sam) can play. Yes, the injury was a setback but you remember he played in the Legends Cup and that’s when they saw that he needed more time to fully recover but he is a player that the technical team believes in and soon he will contribute to the team (Chiefs). So, as with defence, the coach is happy and had no plans for now,” said a source to he same publication.

Chiefs fans, are you happy for Sam to get a chance? Or do you think the club should look for better quality? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
