South African music sensation Tyla has made a splash on Netflix’s festive special, A Nonsense Christmas, alongside pop star Sabrina Carpenter, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The special, filled with music and surprises, brought together a dynamic duo as Tyla joined Sabrina for a standout performance of the classic holiday hit ‘This Christmas’ by Donny Hathaway.
Tyla shared the excitement with her fans, posting behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the special on social media. In her post, she expressed gratitude towards Carpenter, wishing her followers a joyful holiday season with the message, ‘HAPPY HOLIDAYS TYGERRRZ.’ Carpenter responded with an affectionate holiday greeting of her own, commenting, ‘Merry Christmas to ya brothaaaaaaa.’
A Nonsense Christmas is a festive extravaganza featuring holiday music, guest performances, comedic sketches and unexpected duets. The special showcases songs from Carpenter’s holiday EP, fruitcake, alongside classic Christmas tunes. Tyla’s appearance was just one of the many surprises, with other notable guests such as Shania Twain, Kali Uchis and Chappell Roan also joining the fun.
Tyla’s appearance on the Netflix special comes after the successful completion of her South African tour, which included sold-out performances in Cape Town and Pretoria. The artist, who has been gaining international recognition, continues to make waves with her unique sound and style.
In a recent statement, Tyla reflected on the success of her tour, saying, ‘Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of. African music is going global, and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for two years now and I’m so ready for the world to hear it.’
Fans of Tyla will have another opportunity to catch her live performance in South Africa when she adds a new date to her tour schedule. On 18 January 2025, she will perform at the SunBet Arena in Menlyn, Pretoria. Tickets, starting at R500, are available for purchase through Ticketmaster.
