Transfer DEADLINE DAY – Appollis, Cupido, Saleng latest!

The PSL transfer window concludes at midnight tonight.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have been the most active, signing several stars, including Thabo Cele, Jayden Adams and Tashreeq Morris.

Rumours around the league

  • Polokwane star Oswin Appollis will stay at the club amid interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
  • Mamelodi Sundowns are pushing to sign Cape Town City defender Keanu Cupido before the transfer window closes.
  • The absent Monnapule Saleng is set to stay at the Buccaneers and, according to a SoccerLaduma source, will return to the pitch shortly.

Why is Appollis staying?

A Kaizer Chiefs-Appollis transfer seemed all but set in stone before this season began but failed to get over the line due to a reluctant Johnny Mogaladi, Polokwane’s chairman.

“Appollis has a long-term contract at Polokwane City, and he is not going to leave easily. The Chairman is serious about building a strong team,

“What happened in the previous transfer window is that the chairman was not willing to sell at all. He made it clear he wants to build a strong team to be established in the PSL,

“The chairman feels he would rather sell to an overseas team than locally, because he sees every team as competition.”

Former captain isn’t impressed with Chiefs

The once Kaizer Chiefs spartan, Lifa Gqosha, has voiced his disapproval over Kaizer Chiefs’ transfer targets, saying, “Are we becoming a retirement village? It feels like we are turning into an old age home,

“Is it possible to build a team with players who are 30 years old and above? I understand the need for experience, but are they not satisfied with the experienced players they already have?

“When building a team, you must invest in youngsters. I’m not questioning Lorch’s abilities, but at his age, how long can he maintain his form?,

“As a player myself, I would take advantage of such opportunities because it is a chance to earn money. Yet, at the same time, there may be a strong desire to play and prove critics wrong complicates the situation,” Gqosha added.

“Ultimately, I don’t believe that such a signing would help solve Kaizer Chiefs’ problems. For me, it’s a definite no.”
