Ceasar McDowell, CEO of Unite the People, spoke to TMZ. Unite the People are currently representing Tory.
He said Tory knows about Kim’s Instagram post. It seems the rapper is thrilled that Kim used his music.
But Kim isn’t the only Kardashian to support him. Kylie Jenner previously lip-synced to one of his hits. This happened back in June 2023.
He appreciates their ability to separate the art from the artist, and respects that they “appreciate the artistry without judging the artist.” This is according to Lanez himself.
TORY LANES FANS REACT
The reaction in South Africa has been mixed. Some support Tory Lanez as they believe everyone deserves a second chance.
Others are critical, given his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, as the debate rages on social media.
“It’s complicated, isn’t it?” says a local music blogger. “Do we separate the music from the man? It’s a tough question.”
THE ALTERCATION
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallionin the foot, according to Hot New Hip Hop.
The incident occurred in July 2020 after a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in Los Angeles.
A jury convicted Tory Lanez of three felonies.
Assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
The jury convicted Tory Lanez, and the judge subsequently sentenced him to 10 years in prison, despite his assertions of innocence.
The shooting has been described as a “heinous act of violence” by prosecutors. They noted that Megan Thee Stallion has suffered both physical and emotional trauma as a result
THE KARDASHIANS
The Kardashians wield massive influence, their support could boost Lanez’s career, even from behind bars. Lanez isn’t letting prison walls silence him, and is dropping a new album this Friday, according to NBC.
McDowell claims it will be massive, and even suggested it’ll be the biggest rap album since Tupac.
But can the music overcome the controversy? That remains to be seen. South African fans are waiting and ready to listen and then decide.
