Fans of Soweto TV will be familiar with Tidimalo Sehlako, who hosts Just Musicon that channel. On 31 May at the Fight Club in Rivonia, Sehlako will share her love of yoga and wellness with her fans at her Top Tier Sessions with Tidi event. By focusing on both mind and body, she hopes to inspire a deeper commitment to wellness.

TOP TIER WELLNESS

The 15-year broadcast veteran shared what people can expect at her event.

“Firstly, it’s about enjoyment, no one should take time out of their schedule just to be miserable! Secondly, it will be a beautifully guided, intense workout. We are testing our bodies and pushing our limits. However, everyone should go at their own pace. If it’s not fun, you’re not doing it right.”

Sehlako vowed that the session, taking place from 10 am to 12 am this Saturday, should leave those who attend feeling relaxed, nurtured, and spirits elevated to a higher tier.  Her yoga session will also have a doctor on hand to offer information and insights on health and wellness. All of which will set you back R250.

FROM TV TO THE YOGA MAT

Growing up as a child, Sehlako would watch MTV Base and the like, religiously. Celebrity culture played a significant part in her upbringing, but so did the wellness habits of her mother.

“At home, my mom was very into self-care, but at the time, there weren’t the words to explain it. She just had a lot of magazines like Vogueand Cosmopolitan that I was so captivated by. I didn’t see another life for myself besides what I saw in those pages.”

WELLNESS AND WEALTH

Beyond her talents as a broadcaster, she has also managed to turn her passion for fitness and wellness into a business endeavour.

“Yoga has helped me monetise wellness. It’s me offering a service to people. Yoga has made wellness part of my career in media,” Sehlako said.

“Personally, being on the mat, taking a class gives you the mental tools to be able to handle the heaviness that life can give.”

A TREND-SETTING YOGI

For as long as Sehlako can remember, she has focused on her wellness journey and has always searched for ways to care for her mind and body.

“From using the sugar scrubs my mom used to make for her face to going to the gym, all in high school. It’s always been very serious to me. When I started getting paid for it was around 2016,” she said.

Beyond the fitness and wellness benefits yoga provides to the body, her affinity for this form of exertion is also linked to her mental well-being and desire to declutter her mind.

“I got into yoga as a coping mechanism through depression and anxiety. Eventually, through deepening my practice, I got into teaching, and now we are here.”

A DELICATE BALANCING ACT

Sehlako has been in the spotlight and living life in front of the lens since 2014.

“An important moment for me came when I competed in Miss SA.  I have also presented the BET A-List. In 2020, I got a role on Generations: The Legacy and in 2022, I started presenting Just Music on Soweto TV.”

Her schedule can be demanding, so finding time to balance her career while tending to her wellness and caring for her body and mind is paramount.

“Being on Soweto TV is definitely like a nine-to-five because it’s a three-hour daily show. However, with yoga, I only teach events so that I’m not burnt out and I have more time to myself to deepen my practice,” the media personality intimated.

“Start with something you like. If you don’t enjoy it, you won’t sustain it during the hard times.”
