‘There is no need to fire Nabi, blame players’ – Chiefs legend

Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mabedi has urged the club to keep Nasreddine Nabi for next season.

The Tunisian coach has struggled to get Amakhosi to the top this season, having just won eight league matches. He can still end the season on a high if he guides his team to the Nedbank Cup triumph next month. Chiefs play archrivals Orlando Pirates in the final next month at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Mabedi believes Nabi has improved Kaizer Chiefs this season despite the lack of results.

“Yes, the results are not looking good at the moment. And it’s true, any team is judged by its results, but from where I am standing, the team has improved under coach Nabi. Look at the chances they have been creating, though they can’t convert,” he told SNL24.

The Kaizer Chiefs legend feels the club would start over again if they sack Nabi at the end of the season. He feels the Tunisian tactician has done his job and it was now up to the players to deliver.

“If you change the coach now, things have to start all over again, which won’t be good. That’s why I am saying Chiefs should keep Nabi. There is no need to fire him.

“You know, as a coach, Nabi can only do so much. The rest is up to the players to do their job on the field of play.

“The coach does his work at training and in the dressing room, but in the field of play, it’s up to the players, and I think they haven’t been 100 percent perfect so far. They need to work on that and keep the coach,” Mabedi said.

Chiefs have not tasted success in 10 years and Nabi has an opportunity to change that in the final of the Nedbank Cup.

Will Nabi be in charge of Amakhosi next season?
