The English club chasing Orlando Pirates superstar!

Orlando Pirates could be faced with a situation where they lose one or two of their superstars for next season.

Pirates have had yet another decent season where they won their third MTN8 title in a row so far.

Besides that, Pirates are currently second on the Betway Premiership log behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. They’re also in the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League where they take on MC Algers. They’re also in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, which they will be looking to win three consecutive times. One of the players that has been key to that run is striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Sunderland interested in Pirates star Mabasa

Last week, this publication reported that and English Championship side is after the services of Mabasa. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, it is Sunderlandwho are looking to take him away from Pirates.

“It’s the same club interested in another Pirates player, Thalente Mbatha. It’s believed that when the scouts came to look at Mbatha they were also happy with Mabasa and they had to assess him further in other games and apparently they were happy and they have enquired about him. So, Sunderland are the club interested in Tshegofatso Mabasa,” said one source to the same publication.

A second source says the lack of Bafana Bafana caps could affect Mabasa’s chances of signing for Sunderland.

Lack of Bafana caps to hinder the move?

“The interest is there. There has been an enquiry but the lack of national team caps could work against him. You know in the UK you should play a certain number of national team games for you to qualify for their work permit and other things. It’s apparently true the interest is there from Sunderland but will he (Mabasa) qualify for that? That’s where the problem could be,” said the second source.

What should the Buccaneers demand for the striker?

Would a move to Sunderland be a good one for Mabasa? How much should Pirates demand for his services? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab.
