It’s not just ordinary South Africans who have developed a “side hustle” to earn extra cash. Many Springboks have multiple income streams thanks to their own businesses and brand endorsement deals.
Here’s how the Boks make their money off the pitch…
SPRINGBOKS SIDE HUSTLE BUSINESSES REVEALED
Siya Kolisi – Fashion
Springboks captain Siya Kolisi co-founded the underwear/swimwear brand Franklees with high school pal Tim Whitehead in 2017.
He told Daily Voice of his business venture: “I want to wear a pair of undies that gives the Boys the same support as my team gives me, that is comfortable and looks good in any situation on or off the field.”
Siya also has his own collections with apparel companies Freedom of Movement and Adidas.
Steven Kitshoff, Malcolm Marx – Beer
Infamously known as the “Bomb Squad,” Springboks Steven Kitshoff and his teammate Malcolm Marx developed a beer with the same name.
The boozy beverage was launched just weeks before the kick-off of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
They said of their motivation: “We love a second half…It tastes of victory”.
Ox Nche – Clothing line
The Springboks scrum has his own clothing line called Ox Kraal. It includes T-shirts and even a festive jumper!
We couldn’t be surprised if he launched his own cake collection next.
Trevor Nykane – Gin
According to The Noblex, the Springboks prop developed his Nyakane gin as a “lockdown hobby.”
He jokingly said on his Instagram account: “To those who think it might give you some moves, LOL, maybe after a few glasses.
Eben Etzebeth
The Springboks’ highest-capped player has a nutritional supplement called NutrE4 and has a meal prep business. He is also the poster boy for many big brands.
Faf de Klerk
The smallest member of the Springboks has capitalised on his notoriety for wearing itsy-bitsy underwear by launching his own swimwear line, Faffies.
WHEN WILL THEY PLAY AGAIN?
Springboks fans will have to wait at least seven months before they see their favourite team back in action.
According to SA Rugby, these are the tentative fixtures for 2025…
