Singer Steve Hofmeyr has dedicated his new song Oranje to Afrikaner South Africans, also known as the Boer.
The outspoken entertainer has been vocal about his advocacy for the community, particularly in recent weeks. This follows the criticism of Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump, who accused the SA government of promoting “racial discrimination.”
STEVE HOFMEYR RELEASES SONG DEDICATED TO AFRIKANERS
On Friday, 21 February – which is celebrated as International Mother Tongue Day – Steve Hofmeyr released Oranje, dedicated to his fellow Afrikaner South Africans.
He shared of the song on X: “We are Boers, we are Afrikaners, we have no identity crisis despite being despised since 1901. Our only (unique) sin is that we are an acute minority. And our blood has a tint of orange…”
In a lengthy Facebook post, Steve Hofmeyr revealed that the song was a proud representation of the Afrikaans community.
“May the world know of us, a small, void minority..Orange is our colour, our blood too”.
To non-speaking Afrikaans South Africans, Steve added: “Learn from us. And if you will, envy our fearlessness, our humanity…”’
WHAT IS SIGNIFICANCE OF THE COLOUR ORANGE?
While many believe the colour orange is a reminder of the old Apartheid flag, or even the whites-only town of Orania – it is actually associated with the Solidarity Trade Union and the Solidarity Movement.
