Soweto Derby to decide Fiston Mayele’s future?

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs share two invested interests: the Nedbank Cup and Fiston Mayele.

The former could ultimately sway the Congolese’s offseason decision, if he chooses to leave the Champions League finalists. He is wanted on both sides of the Sowetan border.

And it’s perhaps the men in black who are leading the race after outmuscling Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, extending their points gap to twenty-two on the log.

Their next meeting? The Nedbank Cup final on May 10. And it’s hard to imagine that Mayele won’t be watching as AmaKhosi look to end their ten-year trophy drought.

Orlando Pirates interest confirmed

Mayele’s Champions League semi-final brace, sending the Buccaneers packing, has caught their attention, who have suddenly, after a year of Kaizer Chiefs negotiations, shown interest in the 30-year-old.

“Mayele’s camp is testing the waters and trying to see if Pirates are willing to make a concrete move,” the source confirmed. “Given the current situation, both in terms of Pirates’ need for a proven striker and Mayele’s availability, this could be a very real transfer possibility.”

“It’s no secret that Pirates are in the market for a reliable goal-scorer, and after what Mayele did to them on the continental stage, it’s clear he could be that guy.”

However, both clubs face competition for Mayele’s current club Pyrmaids FC, who have reportedly tabled a two-year contract extension in a bid to keep him in Egypt.

“They [Pyramids FC] are doing everything to keep him. They know there is interest not just from Kaizer Chiefs but other clubs as well and they want to make sure they keep him,” said Soccer Laduma.

So they have offered him a new two-year contract which increases his value as well.”

Do you think Orlando Pirates can steal Mayele?
