Renowned singer, actress, and philanthropist Suthukazi “Suthu” Arosi has passed away after a battle with cancer.
The celebrated artist, who was nearing her 64th birthday on March 10, took her final breath at her Centurion home, surrounded by loved ones.
Her passing was confirmed by her manager, Bongani Mahlangu, who shared that Arosi had been in and out of the hospital for several months as she fought courageously against cancer.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy treatments, her condition worsened in recent weeks.
Last month, her family appealed for financial assistance to help cover the rising medical expenses. Arosi is survived by her only son, who is currently making his way back from the United States to be with his family.
Mahlangu also revealed that Arosi had recently completed a new single, Turn Down the Lights, and had unfinished collaborations with legendary musicians like Hugh Masekela.
With a career spanning four decades, Arosi left an indelible mark on the South African music and entertainment industry.
Hailing from Cala in the Eastern Cape, she moved to Johannesburg to pursue her passion, eventually sharing stages with some of the world’s most influential artists.

She worked alongside South African music legends like Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Jonas Gwangwa, Miriam Makeba, and Hugh Masekela.
Arosi was also celebrated for her powerful performances in The Lion King stage production, where she brought life to the characters of Ensemble and Rafiki.
Beyond her artistic achievements, she was a dedicated HIV/AIDS activist and philanthropist, using her platform to raise awareness and support those affected by the disease.
Known for her timeless hits such as Ingane Yabelungu, Wemnt’ Omnnyama, Ulele Ulele, Vumani, Umziwasha, and Amanyala, Arosi was not just a musical icon but also a national treasure.
