In today’s Kaizer Chiefs rumour wrap, we look at what happened at the tail end of last week with a Malian goalkeeper linked.

Malian goalkeeper Diarra is on the Kaizer Chiefs radar

According to SoccerLaduma, Chiefs are keen on recruiting Malian goalkeeper Djigui Diarra. The 30-year-old has 65 caps for his country and worked with coach Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans where the player has been since 2021. The club are reportedly underwhelmed with new signing Fiacre Ntwari, while Brucs Bvuna isn’t seen as a long-term option between the sticks. Diarra is one of six names heavily linked with the club.

Salum isn’t going anywhere

Tanzanian goal-scoring midfielder Feisal Salum is staying put in his native country with Azam FC, according to SoccerLaduma via journalist Eric Ndagijimana. Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi knows the 27-year-old well after they worked together at Yanga SC. However, the Azam team have reinforced their desire to keep the star schemer.

“If there’s any player we’re willing to keep, even with our lives, it’s that guy Feisal.

We’ve never opened any talks with any club because he’s not for sale. Feisal Salum has another 17 months on his contract with Azam. We’ve renewed his contract because he’s an important part of the team.”

ICYMI: Nkgwesa promoted

19-year-old utility defence Kabelo Nkgwesa has been promoted to the club’s first-team setup. With Happy Mashiane failing to impress when given a chance at left-back, Bradley Cross is the club’s only genuine option in that position. Edmilson Dove, just back from injury, is the wrong side of 30 and a natural central defender. Nkgwesa could be an interesting prospect in a position Chiefs have struggled to fill in the trophy drought era.
