Simz Ngema speaks on moving forward

Simphiwe “Simz” Ngema has found peace in prioritizing her own healing, despite the opinions of others.

The actress, who tragically lost her husband, Dumi Masilela, in a botched hijacking in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, back in 2017, recently reflected on her grief and emotional journey.

During an interview on Life Lately with Nozipho, she shared how her relationship with God has helped her navigate the pain.

At 36, she believes that certain people in her life, including her late husband, were divinely placed.

“God in some way kind of brought him into my life. I wasn’t looking, and he just sent someone similar to my dad,” she revealed.

When asked how she knew she was ready to move forward, Simz admitted that there’s no clear moment of certainty.

She also addressed the public scrutiny she has faced, explaining that people’s opinions don’t affect her as much anymore.

“For me, everything that has been said about that situation and the media are things that I’ve already thought of, and it doesn’t affect me as much,” she said.

Living her truth has been her way of coping.

“I’ve learned to live my truth and do things that work for me and forget about everybody else. When you’ve been through that type of trauma, people don’t exist. You’re literally focused on what you are going through and how you are going to get out of it,” she explained.

She emphasized that external opinions hold no weight in her life.

“What you are facing is already a lot and overwhelming enough. Where do you get the chance to care about what people are saying? There is no strength, time, and emotional capacity to pay attention to stuff like that,” she said.

Ultimately, she chose to focus on herself and her path to healing. “I told myself to focus on who I am, what I want, and how I want to get out of the situation,” she concluded.
