Shebeshxt has ignited controversy once more following the release of a disturbing video.

Limpopo-born rapper Shebeshxt, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, has once again sparked outrage after a shocking video surfaced showing him attempting to stab a fan during an argument.

Known for his explosive temper and street persona, the ‘Ke Di Shxt Malume‘ hitmaker appeared to attempt to stab a seated fan, reigniting public concern over his repeated violent outbursts and whether stardom is shielding a dangerous pattern of behaviour.

Caught on camera: Shebeshxt tries to stab fan

Fans were left in disbelief this weekend when a short video clip showed Shebeshxt pulling a large knife from his jacket and attempting to stab a man during what appeared to be a heated argument.

The man, who was seated, barely avoided the blade as it flew in his direction. Eyewitnesses claim the rapper appeared agitated from the start, and instead of walking away, escalated the tension with violence.

History of aggression

This isn’t Shebeshxt’s first brush with public violence. The rapper has built a reputation as much for his music as for his unpredictable and aggressive behaviour. Earlier incidents include:

  • Slapping a fan at Dijong Lifestyle Lounge, later bizarrely referring to the slap as a “firearm”, leaving fans puzzled.
  • Hitting another fan with a beer bottle at Soshanguve’s Chisa Nyama, reportedly after being bumped into.
  • Being charged with discharging a firearm in Limpopo in 2023 after allegedly firing shots during a family altercation. Charges that were later dropped.

Despite claiming he was a changed man during an appearance on MacG’s Podcast and Chill, where he discussed his troubled past, Shebeshxt continues to be involved in violent confrontations.

Reformed or repeat offender?

Shebeshxt’s fans are finding it increasingly difficult to reconcile his claims of transformation with his recurring violent episodes. In one recent video, he is seen calmly avoiding a slap from a female fan who appears to be provoking him, which some took as a sign of personal growth.

But such rare restraint is quickly overshadowed by more frequent, explosive acts.

Online reactions are becoming increasingly critical. Social media user @Melo_Malebo tweeted,
“This guy must be marked as a threat to society at this point. Who behaves like this, knowing cams are rolling?”

Another user, @AzaniaParker, posted, “This guy is a hooligan, finish n klaar. I hope the guy who survived the big 🔪 opens a case. Ngu Nongoloza loo💔”

Tragedy and trouble: life behind the lyrics

Shebeshxt’s journey has been anything but smooth. In 2024, he survived a horrific car crash that tragically claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile Chuene. His partner, Kholofelo Moloto, was also injured in the accident. The incident left him with severe injuries.

Before this personal tragedy, Shebeshxt was no stranger to law enforcement. He faced legal battles both in South Africa and Botswana.

In SA, he was arrested on charges of assault, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property. In Botswana, he was detained in December 2023 for breaching a performance contract.

Fame without filter: Is the industry enabling violence?

Rising to fame as the first guest on Podcast and Chill to hit more than one million views in just two days without a record label, TV, or radio play, Shebeshxt’s raw appeal has always been tied to his “realness”. But fans are beginning to question whether that unfiltered persona is masking deeper issues.

“He needs to be arrested for this action,” another fan posted. “This whole ‘I’m a former gangster, so don’t mess with me’ energy needs to be dealt with.”

With a track record of lashing out at supporters, many now wonder: is being a fan of Shebeshxt more dangerous than it’s worth?

Whether in clubs, on stage, or even in the street, it seems no one is safe from the rapper’s short fuse.
