Orlando Pirates have been reported to have beaten Kaizer Chiefsto a double deal in the January transfer window.
Pirates and Chiefs have been vying for the coveted signatures of Polokwane Cityduo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi.
Pirates and Chiefs targeting Appollis and Matuludi
Last month, this publication reported that Pirates were on the verge of sealing the deal for the duo. This would be a blow to Chiefs bosses and fans, with the club not hiding their admiration for the players. Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnrwent on radio to confirm talks for Appollis. He also went on to confirm that he wasn’t the only player they were looking at from Polokwane. At the time, rumours were also rife that Matuludi was a target of the club.
Recently, this publication reported that Pirates had struck an agreement on transfer terms with City. The Soweto giants would pay a fee of R15 million for the Appollis and Matuludi plus offer a player to head the other way. A follow up report then stated the possible delay in the deal was the player going the other direction. The Limpopo side had reportedly wanted Katlego Otladisa who in turn went to the other side of the province. The winger opted for a move to Sekhukhune Unitedinstead.
City deny agreement with Buccaneers or offer from Amakhosi
Now that delay as well as recent comments from a City official seem to have given Chiefs a tiny boost. Speaking to goal.com RSA. Club CEO Tincy Temainsists there is no deal between ‘Rise and Shine’ and Pirates.
“Those are just rumours, there is no truth about the transfer of Appollis and Matuludi going to Orlando Pirates. We haven’t received any offer or a proposal from both Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates so far. So there is no deal with Pirates, both players are not going anywhere.” Said Tema.
