Newly-appointed uMkhonto weSizwe ((MK) Party secretary-generalFloyd Shivambu has snubbed former “long-term friend” Julius Malema as he referred to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member of Parliament Mbuyiseni Ndlozi as his true brother.
Shivambu dumped the EFF he co-founded with Malema in 2013 following the latter’s expulsion from the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in 2012 for the Jacob Zuma-led MK Party.
FLOYD SHIVAMBU ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH MBUYISENI NDLOZI
In an interview with the SABC, Shivambu revealed he has been friends with Ndlozi for over 20 years and that he is his brother in the true sense of brotherhood.
“I don’t claim ownership of his ideological direction or politics but we have worked together for the longest time. We disagree on some of the issues, the technical issues, but ideologically we’re almost always aligned in terms of what needs to be done, the issue is how do we do that differently,” he said.
In an interview with the SABC in September, Malema said he felt a sense of relief after Shivambu ditched the Red Berets.
“Though his departure was painful, I got some sense of relief. I don’t know why – it was as if I’ve put down some heavy load,” he told the public broadcaster.
On the other hand, In October, Shivambu told podcaster Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh that his relationship with Malema was purely political.
“It was a political relationship that we had. Of course, because we worked in the same spaces, we ended up doing so many things together, if there is a family gathering, we supported each other. The relationship was always politics, with no bad feelings,” he said.
“Sometimes this called brotherhood is not brotherhood, it borders on gangsterism relationships. If one person is wrong, you can’t call each other to order. You defend each other even if one is doing wrong things,” he added.
