The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for distributing grants and allowances to disadvantaged people who require financial assistance.

At last count, SASSA is charged with disbursing social welfare to roughly 24 million people in Mzansi.

That figure comprises 4 million old-age-pensioners, 13 million childcare beneficiaries, 6 million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) recipients, and roughly 1 million disability and war veterans.

SASSA beneficiaries can receive their SASSA payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers and Shoprite, and obtain this through their SASSA card, CashSend, or by getting the amount directly transferred into their bank account.

Dates

The all-important payment dates are confirmed well ahead of time for those affected to mark in their calendars.

This is the final round of payments remain this year.

Diarise the following payment dates for Older person’s grants, Disability grants and Children’s grants:

As it stands, the stipend for Older Persons (aged between 60-75 years), Disability and the Care Dependency Grants, amounts to R2 190.

Persons older than 75 years of age and war veterans receive an amount of R2 210.

The Foster Care Grant amounts to R1 180, while the Child Support Grant is currently R530 per month.

SASSA has warned beneficiaries to ignore widespread misinformation regarding the changing of payment dates and to ensure that their information is up-to-date.
