There’s all sorts of speculation surrounding Monnapule Saleng to Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are on the brink of two new signings.
Saleng to Kaizer Chiefs is the ultimate April Fool’s Joke
All jokes aside, after hesitating to sell Monnapule Saleng, and with all possible suitors knowing he’s unhappy at the club, that will certainly drive his price down. Pirates’ bargaining position is significantly weakened because of the player’s reluctance to stay, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get a good sum for the 27-year-old. The record departure in Pirates history was €2.3 million (R44 million) when Mbulelo ‘Oldjohn’ Mabizela moved to Tottenham in 2003-2004. It’s unlikely the Sea Robbers can fetch a number in that region, but there’s no reason why the 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Year shouldn’t command a decent fee. They should be looking to recover at least half (R22 million), especially if they can bring Sundowns to the market. The main question there is: do they want to strengthen a rival?

Sea Robbers close in on Mashiloane, Moremi
Local publication Kick Off have indicated that Orlando Pirates want to sign AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi. The 25-year-old winger will be a free agent in June if he doesn’t agree on a new deal with Usuthu. Furthermore, 22-year-old Baroka right-back Tshepo Mashiloane is virtually in the bag.
Mbokazi isn’t the finished article, yet
Physically gifted and still growing into his frame, teenage central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi will have no issue outmuscling strikers. Where he might run into issues is across the ground against nippier forwards who run the channels. Pirates’ 19-year-old powerhouse isn’t lightning quick off the mark. However, with his natural defensive intelligence, instincts and anticipation, this shouldn’t be a problem. There’s still plenty of improvement, though, for one so young.
What’s a fair value for Monnapule Saleng, all things considered?
