Rulani Mokwena’s Moroccan nightmare comes to an end. But could a return to the PSL be on the cards? Let’s find out.

The representative of Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena, Steven Kapeluschnik  has come out and spoken about unpaid wages at the Moroccan giants and straightened out the coach’s future.

This follows reports that Mokwena along with his technical director, assistant coach Sinethemba Badela, and goalkeeper trainer Sean Louw, have not been paid for the last eight months.

Mokwena left SA for pressure of North Africa

Mokwena’s move came after he jumped ship from Mamelodi Sundowns to Wydad AC last June, with his own South African technical team.

His time in North Africa has been difficult, with the Red Castle failing to meet expectations across all competitions. Their last hopes of silverware were cancelled out by a 1-0 defeat to Moghreb Atlético Tetuán in the Moroccan Throne Cup.

Mokwena can only finish in a second-place finish for CAF Champions League qualification, something Wydad missed out on last season. Because RS Berkane has already been crowned league champions.

Mokwena’s agent, Kapeluschnick, confirmed that his client will leave Wydad at the end of the season, stating it will be a respectful exit.

Mokwena to leave Wydad Athletic Club

“I’ve flown to Morocco to meet with the club and president Hicham Ait Menna regarding the future of Rulani and his technical team,” Kapeluschnick said as quoted by Hollywoodbets Sports.

“It was agreed that no matter the outcome of the remaining matches. The two parties have made a commitment that Rulani will be the coach until the end of the season. Thereafter, he will respectfully part ways with the club.”

In Mokwena’s 32 games, he only managed 13 wins and has accepted his fate. Because he will not compromise his style of play. His agent also mentioned that they have been paid until February but that there is still other money owed.

With Rulani Mokwena available at the end of the season, could we see him returning to the South African Premiership? With Orlando Pirates looking for a new coach, and Kaizer Chiefs struggling, opportunities back home are aplenty.
