Rick Ross SA festival becomes a target of scammers

American rapper Rick Ross is getting ready to return to mzansi shores for his much-anticipated performance at this year’s Durban Music festival.

The event is set to take place on the 3 May at the iconic Moses Mabida Stadium and features a star-studded lineup which includes Nasty C, DJ Tira, Blxckie, Dlala Thukzin, Mawhoo and several others.

With the event promising to live up to the hype, it has now been reported that there has been an influx of scammers trying to trick festival-goers into purchasing fake tickets for the event.

Gregory Wings, who through his company Blue Label Entertainment is responsible for bringing the Aston Martin rapper back to South Africa, highlighted that sponsors have contacted him about people who constantly reached out to them using his and his company’s name.

Speaking to the news and entertainment publication, Sunday World, he said: “People are approaching sponsors using the company name and I do not know who they are. So, sponsors alerted me, and that is why I say, people should only buy tickets at Computicket”.

In a recent interview with MacG on an episode of Podcast & Chill, who is now also the official media partner of the event, Gregory highlighted that it was not a Rick Ross show. Instead, it was a show aimed at giving the people of Durban a good time.

He explained that this filters through to the artist selection, where every artist who is scheduled to perform is originally from Durban.

“The premise behind the show is to bridge the gap between black American music culture and the South African music culture. Once we bridge that gap, Hip Hop back to South Africa,” he explained.

“The only reason why Hip Hop is dead is because nobody is curating new talent. The premise behind the show is to push new talent.”

He explained that, in addition to the various activities that will take place on the day, there is an artist event where an artist will be signed to a major label, one of which will be either Sony or Virgin Music group.

That person will also have an opportunity to perform alongside Rick Ross that evening.
