It’s been ten long years since Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in a crime that has yet to be solved. And it seems the women who were close to him – widow Mandisa Mkhize and girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, are both seemingly blue-ticking the tragic day.
The Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was murdered under mysterious circumstances in 2013 while visiting the home of Kelly’s mother in Vosloorus.
At the time of his death, Senzo had fathered a daughter with his wife and a second with his mistress. The soccer star, known for his wandering eye, also had two more children with different baby mamas.
SENZO MEYIWA’S WIDOW AND MISTRESS BLUE-TICK 10TH ANNIVERSARY
On their Instagram profiles, both Kelly Khumalo and Mandisa Mkhize failed to publicly acknowledge the tenth anniversary of Senzo Meyiwa’s death.
Mandisa – who is reportedly set to wed another man– posted a picture of her daughter Nana during a day out shopping. Nana, who is 16 years old, was just 6 when her father died.
According to reports, Mandisa has received the Meyiwa family’s blessing to remarry.
Meanwhile, Kelly, who has wiped her Instagram clean, shared several cryptic quotes about life.
One read: “Plans: Private
“Moves: Silent
“Circle: small
“Life: peaceful
“Prayers: loud”
“Heart: happy”
Senzo Meyiwa’s third daughter is Thingo, whom he conceived with his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. At the time of his death in 2014, Thingo was only seven months old.
Having no recollection of her father, Thingo – like sisters Nana and Namhla (the eldest, by a different woman)– she has also inherited her soccer star’s looks.
A DECADE AND NO ANSWERS
A decade after his death, Senzo Meyiwa’s family, friends, and fans are no closer to finding out who pulled the trigger that killed him.
According to the witnesses in the Vosloorus home – which included Kelly, her mother Ntombifuthi, sister Zandie Gumede, and her then-boyfriend Longwe Twala, as well as Senzo’s two friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Twala – two intruders entered shot and killed Senzo.
However, the state has poked holes in their version of events.
In 2020, five men were arrested for Senzo’s murder. However, the murder case has dragged on with multiple delays.
Criminal justice expert Ulrich le Roux remains hopeful that things will change.
He told Jacaranda FM: “It is a very sad reality that ten years have passed since the Meyiwa death. And the trial is still ongoing. There are obviously a number of things that have transpired in this trial, which have led to delays in matters being finalised.
“They are now in the middle of the trial, and things are progressing.
“So one can only hope that the trial will be finalised as soon as possible and that the right outcome will be forthcoming from the court.”
