Relehobile Mofokeng to miss the Soweto Derby?

Orlando Pirates youngster Relehobile Mofokeng must be on his best behaviour when his side takes on Richards Bay FC in the Nedbank Cup tomorrow.

The 20-year-old sensation is a yellow card away from suspension, insinuating that the risk of not having one of his brightest stars could tempt Jose Riveiro to exclude Mofokeng from their upcoming game.

Mofokeng wanted abroad

His silky skills and attacking prowess have put the world on notice, with several of the game’s giants, such as Al Ahly and Barcelona, keeping tabs on the Sharpeville-born star.

“Wydad Athletic are in advanced negotiations with South African club Orlando Pirates over the potential signing of 20-year-old striker Relebohile Mofokeng according to Moroccan media,” SoccerLaduma reported.

“According to Moroccan publication Lesiteinfo Wydad have made a tempting financial offer to Pirates for the young forward, with the South African club reportedly leaning towards accepting the bid,

“Mofokeng, who is considered one of South Africa’s brightest rising stars, is said to be open to the prospect of working under his compatriot, Rulani Mokwena, at Wydad. However, while the offer from Wydad is enticing, a move at this stage seems unlikely.”

Barcelona insterest

The Barcelona-Mofokeng links came as a surprise to father, Sechaba, who said, “to be honest, I was shocked when I first heard it. Rele and Barcelona!  Those two things are on different planets in different worlds. But I said, ‘if you are doing well, good things will come to you,

“If it happens that he gets a contract there, I will give him only three months and he will be shining in the FC Barcelona team,

“I told him if you are doing well, you will have more teams looks at you – but you to do more. You haven’t done anything yet. Just show them what you are made of and they will realise we have gold in Mzansi.’

Should Mofokeng flock the PSL?
