Thembinkosi Lorch is making headlines after being unveiled by Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club after his move from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Last week, the publication reported that the star had jetted to Morocco to seal his loan move.
REASONS BEHIND THEMBINKOSI LORCH’S SUNDOWNS EXIT REVEALED
Taking to social media, the North African giants shared videos of Lorch sealing his move and his unveiling.
The posts have undoubtedly gained thousands of comments and reactions since they dropped online.
This will be Thembinkosi Lorch’s third stint under coach Rhawulani Mokwena, who once coached him at Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
A few days before the transfer deadline, Mamelodi Sundowns pulled a shocker when the club listed Lorch and five others for sale.
It was also established that the club listened to loan and permanent deal offers. His Kaizer Cheifs deal reportedly failed since the club was reluctant to let him join rivals from the PSL.
Many are trying to understand the reasons behind Thembinkosi Lorch’s exit, and Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach has shed more light on his move.
Explaining the move, Cardoso said the 2019 PSL Player of the Year was now unhappy at Chloorkop and wanted more game time elsewhere.
After their match with Golden Arrows, the Mamelodi Sundowns coach said, “Regarding Lorch, as you might have imagined, he was not happy here.
“It’s important that the players must be happy. We cannot sustain players who are not in an environment where they feel they can perform.”
The Mamelodi Sundowns coach added, “Sometimes, it’s very important to give them the air. They need to breathe so that they can express themselves and also have the game time because they need to play.
“Lorch is not the young player [anymore] and in the last years, he hasn’t played that much. So, it was important to let him go.”
CAREER
Thembinkosi Lorch started his career with Katlehong Young Stars. He made his senior debut with Maluti FET College FC in 2013.
While at Maluti FET College FC, he received a call from Screamer Tshabalala, who informed him of Orlando Pirates’ interests after his stellar performance against Jomo Cosmos then.
In 2015, Thembinkosi Lorch joined the Orlando Pirates. However, he was loaned out during his first two seasons.
He played for Cape Town All Stars and Chippa United during the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons before returning to the Orlando Pirates.
Since then, he has been winning big. The 2018/2019 season was arguably Thembinkosi Lorch’s best season. In 2024, he left Orlando Pirates for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Barely a year after joining Sundowns, Lorch was loaned to Wydad. However, little is known about his future after his loan deal.
